René Lacaille
René Lacaille is one of the french musicians from La Réunion island who, along with Alain Peters, electrified the traditional rhythms and tunes in the 70's and 80's. No cheesy fusion here, but cheerful and original Maloya (of Malagasy background) and Séga (of European and African background), sustained on Digdig by Bob Brozman's hawaïan guitar and charango (a kind of small Bolivian guitar). On Mapou, Lacaille puts together all the influences that exist on the island to make a large Zamalgamèr (a melting pot in La Réunion creole language) of his own. |
