Érik Marchand
Born Parisian with Breton backgrounds, very curious of the traditional repertory from his home country, Érik Marchand eventually settled in Brittany in 1975 and has been pursuing so far a prolific and unique work of collection and interpretation. Of the same wood as Bob Brozman, this singer and clarinettist provokes journeys and meetings, and succeeds in insufflating within the Breton culture repressed and unknown accents, new modal acompaniements, through his collaborations with Thierry Robin (lute), Hameed Khan (tabla) or the ensemble Taraf de Caransebes (Romania). On Kan (song in Breton) he gathers together an improbable team singers from Sardinia, Mali and Galicia and creates a successful and subtle voice flow without any artifice. |
