Yat-Kha
Cofounder member of tuvinian traditional group Huun-Huur-Tu, Robert Kuvezin received a most traditional diphonic singer training before being fired from the Soviet choir at the time of his youth. Very keen on western rock music, he then created at the fall of the Soviet empire, with other tuvinian musicians, Yat-Kha, after the name of a large typical cithar. Whereas Kuvezin has a very particular way to practise diphonic singing (popular in western countries from Tibetan monks), one thinks sometimes of Tom Waits or of french singer Arthur H., the group also adds cheerful electrifications to the tradition and plays in a very surprising way some western pop and rock standards. Re-Covers is thus an amazing and eclectic tribute to all of Kuvezins musical influences from Kraftwerk to Paul Mauriat and Hank Williams, but also including russian (Vladimir Vysotsky) or tuvinian composers (Alexei Baktrevitch Tchyagal). |
