The Ex
Independent Dutch music group since 1979, is what one can read on the heading of their Web site, which sounds a little like an Ex Libris, a sort of VSOP sign, and as a matter of fact their innumerable meetings and mixings and travels and involvements throughout their career made their name synonymous to a label of progressist punk music. Among the musicians who appeal to The Ex one will quote Fugazi or Sonic Youth amongst others... to say the extent of their (truly underground) network. Through their journeys, Africa seems to have an important place, like that interpretation from Konono N°1 (a Congolese likembe orchestra), like that tribute to Ethiopian saxophonist Getatchew Mekurya or like that interpretation of Huryiet, an Eritrean popular liberation song. The Ex also discovered excellent groups like Hungarian Kampec Dolores and guitarist Andy Moor started to collaborate via Kletka Red with Leonid Soybelman about klezmer music. |
