Sri K. Sivaprasad
Carnatic South Indian music is definitely very keen on innovation, and one could have excpected the introduction of an even more radical alternative in this field in the use of mouth whislte (curiously still little heard in the musical creation). Sri K. Sivaprasad, also known as the "whistle wizard", may sounds like a freak to some puritans, but his skill and virtuosity in this field are impressive. He manages to modulate his breath and whistle to the point that he creates a perfect and rejoicing harmony with the violin and the jew's harp, giving us the feeling that one can make his own way in carnatic music! |
