Michel Godard
Ancestor of the tuba, the serpent (snake) was formerly used to play the plainsong during masses. Gradually fallen into oblivion, this instrument is today reconsidered thanks to Michel Godard, basically a tuba player, who plays on numerous jazz and traditional music stages and in studios, looking for the unexpected. Repons, recorded with the monkschorus from the abbey of Ligugé, is like returning to the source of this old instrument, it is a rare dialogue and a brilliant alchemy between the sweet animality of the serpent and the spirituality of the Gregorian chant. Michel Godard also recorded, amongst others, with XVIII-21 Musique des Lumières and Fleur de Prunus, and also with Valentin Clastrier. |
