Ivor Cutler
Born in 1923 in Glasgow, Ivor Cutler grew up in a Jewish and austere family, and is famous in his country for his delicious Scottish accent full of a melancholic humour. Of a curious but inconstant nature, he was fired from the RAF during the war because he spent more time observing the clouds than the enemy. It is in the years 1950 that he decides, along with his work as a teacher, to play on a small portable organ, the poems he composes, the latters being much of solitary gospels, of odes to objects and animals and of imparable syllogistic tales. An audience on the BBC confers him celebrity along with a meeting with the Beatles (with whom he plays in Magical Mystery Tour) as well as a participation to several John Peel sessions. Ivor Cutler has been a member of the very British "Noise Abatement Society". He recently passed away in London. |
