The Garo of the Madhupur Forest

Of tibeto-burman origin, Garo from the forest area of central Bengladesh, compared to their homonymous cousins who live in India, have relatively kept intact traditions since their settlement centuries ago. Their music, mainly of a festive and propitiatory nature, is played in group, on percussions (gongs and gourds) and wind instruments (horns and bamboos). Throbbing rhythms, mob's calls, incantations: this music is naturally close to the tribal traditions of the South-East Asia but also curiously points out similarities with some musical traditions from Amazonia.
