Music of Pamir-Badakshan
On the far East of Tadjikistan, on the borders of Afghanistan and China and on the edge of the Himalayas, is the area of Pamir also known as the roof of the world. It is a place where languages and traditions have been slowly wrought by the silk road and the land has been remote enough for the people to resist to the Soviet influence. This recording offers a music discovered in the seventies, mainly sung in shoghnani, derived from turco-Mongolian, Persian and Indian musical traditions. Rebab violas, daf drums, choruses and plaintive solos are part of these rare versions of ghazals, mystical lullabies and other songs. |
